An extra long (120min) classic Open Class so we have more time to dive deeper into specific aspects of our Jivamukti Yoga lineage and to work in detail on more advanced asanas and/or yoga philosophy teachings and practices.

Despite this class being 30% longer than the regular classes, we only charge our regular class prices for it. However, we kindly ask for additional voluntary donations (ca. 1-5€) for our friends at Tierfreunde Niederbayern (https://www.tierfreunde-niederbayern.de/), who are saving, with a lot of engagement, old hunting dogs from killing stations in south Europe.

Experience our Jivamukti Yoga lineage in its original form: Our Classic Open is the signature Open class that has been at the heart of our Jivamukti Yoga lineage since its beginnings in New York in the 1980s. This is the original Open class length in our Jivamukti Yoga lineage: long enough to comfortably include all 14 points of practice in depth and to immerse fully in the innovative combinations of asana, meditation, and spiritual teachings of our method. ‎

Whether you’re a beginner, deciphering the difference between vṛkṣāsana (tree) and śīrṣāsana (headstand), or an advanced yogi who can put both feet behind their head, the class welcomes you, as it is open to practitioners of all levels. You practice at your own pace, following the teacher’s verbal and hands-on guidance. Āsana options will be provided for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students.

A typical Open class incorporates the five tenets of our Jivamukti Yoga lineage: śāstra (scripture), bhakti (devotion), ahiṁsā (nonviolence), nāda (sound), and dhyāna (meditation), presenting classical yogic teachings as relevant to life on and off the mat. This is supported by chanting, breath awareness, flowing vinyāsa sequences, alignment exploration, hands-on assistance, relaxation, and meditation.

All Open classes in our Jivamukti Yoga lineage include 14 points: āsanas, meditation, and spiritual teachings, in a sequence creatively designed by the teacher. Exuberant, eclectic music plays an integral role: you might practice to a shifting soundtrack of rāgas, global trance, hip-hop, spoken word, George Harrison, Sting, Krishna Das, Donna de Lory, Michael Franti, Bill Laswell, Alice Coltrane, and Mozart.

Open classes are called “Open” because they are open and suitable for all levels of practitioners. However, beginning students should note that there will not be detailed “how to” instructions; for that, students are advised to attend our Foundations, Basic, or Open(M) classes.

What makes the Classic Open special is its authenticity and depth: It is the full-length experience of a yoga class as it was originally developed and taught in our Jivamukti Yoga lineage: powerful, immersive, and transformative, offering enough time to move through a complete practice with presence and awareness.

From her first Jivamukti Yoga class on she was deeply moved by practicing yoga - as a way of connection - where she immediately felt at home. Annie is deeply grateful for all of her teachers, who share their passion, inspiration & knowledge, especially Anja Kühnel, her mentor David Essing, ALL teachers near and far, as well as Sharon Gannon and David Life for creating this magical practice. Annie is a 800h+ certified Jivamukti Yoga Teacher, and studied psychology & dance studies. She is currently assisting the “Three Boons 180 Hour Yoga Teacher Training” facilitated by Anja Kuehnel.
